New Companion: Elder Leroy. From Belgium. Been on his mission for 20 months. Loves volleyball!

Area: Having a blast here in Grandfalls Newfoundland still and I love it!!

Blessing of the week: Helping our neighbor move about 3 pieces of furniture downstairs and giving us $20 #blessings!!

Adventure of the week: Went for a hike to Gander Lake. That was really fun and it was a nice day which made it even better! When the sun is out I am happy!

Spiritual high: Teaching our investigator about family history and getting her started! She was so excited to learn about her ancestors and see more about their lives. I know that Family history is such a blessing for our day! I love it!

I know that Heavenly Father loves us and that we can find happiness as we learn about our past!

Snow and SUN!!! May 23, 2017

May 23, 2017

on a cloudy day

when life seems dry

look out the window and see no birds fly

there in the distance is a house with golden windows

why is that not me

for the beauty of the sunshine

so precious, so fine

will one day come upon my windows

and make my life divine

So worry not about the others

think of the blessings within

for in the house with golden windows

those inside do whine

the day has past

now look across the valley

at that house with golden windows

is the one with me inside

Poem written by Elder Madsen, 9:44am, Grandfalls, Newfoundland

I have no reason why but I felt inspired to just write a poem ahahaha

I guess that I was missing the times at PCS doing creative writing. I think there’s a message in the poem somewhere- I think it means that we may look at others and think that they have what we want, but as life goes on we often times don’t realize that we have what other people want.

So as a final conclusion: I need to be grateful and remember not to compare myself to others.

Grandfalls, Great Faith

May 16, 2017

Hello hello to everyone!!

It’s been a couple weeks of adventure and fun out here!

1. Saw a moose

2. Ate Lobster

3. Sat on some icebergs!

Spiritual note:

Reflecting on mothers day I was reminded of the Savior’s life and how He cared for all those He met. Mothers, like Jesus, have an intrinsic way of loving those they meet. I pondered this some more and thought about how often we are offended by someone, or leave our faith because of someone else. Matt 11:6, “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”

We need not take offense from others as that can be the downfalls of our own spiritual nature. The 2 ways that I have thought about how to increase our ability to not be offended is by FIRST: gaining a perspective that all people are a son or daughter of God. This allows us to remember that they were a child once, they are learning just as we are, and the remark they made to us may be caused from some un-met need. SECOND: Compassion. In the very moment when someone jerks our fancy, I have found that remembering compassion and wanting to serve them allows for the comment to sink in.

May we follow Christ’s example in the way we live our lives!!

I love Canada, the people, the nature, the opportunity to serve!

Exciting week of travels on the front over here!

Lay down of the week:

Tuesday: Drove to Corner Brook Newfoundland and ate Moose-meat pie! yes real moose

Wednesday: Flew to Halifax and worked with some elders there!

Thursday: Had a big meeting in Moncton, New Brunswick. Spiritual thought to follow.

Friday: Went on exchanges with some elders and it was super fun! I love Halifax!

Saturday:Went to catch our flight home, however the plane was delayed an hour, then 2, then cancelled.

*At this point we were a little sad because now no one in Grandfalls could go to church! It was a sad realization point…

Sunday: Went to church in Halifax with a ward of 150+ and was overwhelmed!! Seriously blew my mind away at how many people were there!

Monday: Went to catch our new flight, and we got all excited because we were having a layover in Labrador (a place no missionaries get to go)!! We got on the plane and were all nicely seated, then the worst announcement came on……mechanical leakage….everyone get off. HAHAH They realized that we wouldn’t make our connection and so our only option was to wait 6 hours in the Halifax airport! Our flight left at 11:30pm and we got home around 2am!

Anywho, it was a funny experience, and loved every minute of it!

Spiritual thought:

Personal Conversion to the Doctrine of Christ can make trials and tribulations easier to bear. I was reminded again this week of how learning and applying the Atonement in my life will help me have peace through all trials. While we dealt with travel problems, this was the first time in my life that I was not frustrated, nor angry. These things happen in life, and getting frustrated and flustered, stressing and sub-conscious about these matters will never help.

I love this beautiful life we live!

*shout out to Tracy and Tyler Hales! Sealed in the temple!! Blessed Day!*
Lesson learned this week:
Finding the balance between listening and participating. We’ve been teaching this woman who just talks and talks and talks. I’ve come to realize that while listening to her is important, with out guidance or us being able to speak, no one is being edified by the Holy Ghost.
At church, some people talk a lot, some not at all.
At school, some raise their hand to every question, some not at all.
Harmony is achieved through group participation and being able to hear the voice of all present.
